Recreational Therapy at Brightmore II

Had another great class with the ladies of Brightmore. I love especially their willingness to try something new and keep going, even if unsure of the results. They are so sweet and we all had a really, really good time. So below are some pics from the event. :-)
The painting below is what I instructed them on. I did it in one hour, the morning before the class, to make sure it can, indeed, be done in one sitting. The class was two hours, we used more like 2 1/2, but it was so much fun!

The photos below show how intense they can get... they took this seriously, and yet... had loads of laughs!

Just wrapped up a class teaching some ladies scarf painting basics... had fun and they did a great job! Each one so different and unique and that's what I really love about it! I mounted the scarves to boards to make it easy from them to paint... worked like a charm! Below are some pictures from the class:

"Cherokee Bridge" by Kinga

We passed a bridge to our right and abruptly stopped the car to get out and document this rusty, tired, yet still useful gateway to Cherokee neighborhoods… I wonder what stories it has heard and what people it has seen.

This brings to mind my favorite story Indian grandfathers pass down to their youth known as "The Wolves Within”. Brilliant, really. I goes something like this:

A youth came to his Grandfather with anger about an injustice he felt he suffered and the Grandfather replied:

There are two wolves inside me. One is good and does no harm. He lives in harmony and does not take offense when no offense was intended. He will only fight when it is right to do so, in the right way.

The other wolf is full of anger. He fights everyone, he has a very short temper, for no reason. He cannot think because his anger and hate are so great. It is helpless anger, as it changes nothing.

Sometimes it is hard to live with these wolves, for they both try to dominate my spirit.

The youth asks his wise Grandfather, "Which one wins, Grandfather?"

The Grandfather smiles and simply, quietly says, "The one you feed."

Happy Halloween!

Hubbie and I love to dress up for Halloween... well, at least I do and he indulges me. This year we were the wolf and red riding hood. He was more like a wolf from the Grimm TV show and well, I wasn't exactly “little red...”. We had a great time, though. :-) He's wearing an NC State shirt... “The Wolfpack”... get it?
